[bakedchicagorecipes] Classic Barbecue Sauce Recipe

Classic Barbecue Sauce Recipe

In honor of Chicago's Rick Bayless winning Top Chef Masters, here is my take on a classic barbecue sauce.

Barbecue sauce

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 small white onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons ground mustard
  • 28 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup un-sulfured molasses
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground black pepper

In medium saucepan, heat oil over medium-high heat.  Add onion and cook until completely soft (about 5 minutes).  Add garlic and cook until fragrant (about 2 minutes).  Click for complete recipe...
